I began taking decorating classes to improve my piping skills. Fast forward 8 years and MANY batches of cookies later ... now decorated cookies are one of my go-to treats when celebrating special occasions.
During my many years of practice, I have compiled a LOT of information about decorating cookies and written a beginner's guide to cookie decorating. I’ve used that knowledge to help cookie decorators of all levels improve their skills through my website windycitybaker.com. Because of the experience I gained practicing, I won Chicago's Best Baker Competition in 2019.

In Halloween Candy you'll learn:
After you have enrolled, you will receive an email from Teachable, the e-learning portal where the course is hosted. This email will contain a link with access to the course. Once you are logged into the portal, you will have access to course materials that will aid you in preparing for the LIVE session. If you have any issues accessing the portal, don't hesitate to email me at sara@windycitybaker.com.
Also, once you purchase the course, you will be sent an email from Embakify with a link and password for the private Facebook group.
The LIVE session will be held on Zoom. A recording of the live meetings will be kept on Facebook and also uploaded to the Teachable portal.
Experience: This class is geared toward intermediate cookie decorators who are familiar with how to outline and flood. However, all levels are welcome. Sara will show you everything you need to know from start to finish!
Tech: You will need to have access to a device that will allow you to watch videos and download PDFs (if you want to save the provided materials) and an internet connection.
Ingredients: Cookie ingredients (all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, butter, salt, eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract), royal icing ingredients (powdered sugar, meringue powder, water, corn syrup, and vanilla extract), and gel food coloring.
Equipment: Stand mixer, baking sheets, parchment paper, rolling pin, plastic wrap, sifter, sharp knife, toothpick, spatula, black and red edible markers, luster dust or powdered food coloring (orange, red, bronze, brown, green, and blue), small and round food-grade paintbrush, and piping bags. No cookie cutters are required since paper templates are included in the workbook so cookies can be cut by hand.
Optional Equipment: couplers, #1 piping tips, small and square food-grade paintbrush
The Halloween Candy course will be held on October 12th, 2021 from 7-9pm CDT via Zoom. The course will last approximately 2 hours (although decorating can be unpredictable so this time might vary). There are a few assignments to be completed prior to the Live Stream (like making the sugar cookies, preparing royal icing, outlining, and flooding the cookies), which will be covered in the workbook.
You will have lifetime access to the step-by-step Halloween Candy video tutorials and PDFs.
Recordings of the live cookie decorating classes will be saved on the Teachable portal and Facebook. You will have lifetime access to the videos on both portals. The course is not transferable.
Halloween Candy will be held on October 12th, 2021 from 7-9pm CDT. If you are unable to make it for the live portion you can watch the recorded sessions as many times as you would like.
This course is for anyone who wants to build upon their foundational techniques and improve their cookie decorating skills!
It is perfect for anyone who wants to brush up on how to bake no-spread sugar cookies, create cookie designs, get icing to the correct consistency, the basics of cookie decorating with royal icing.
It would also be helpful for anyone looking for inspiration and instruction in becoming a better cookie decorator (an intermediate-level cookie decorator) by learning how to create dimension with icing, using edible markers and luster dust to create a finished looking cookie, and getting access to a LIVE cookie decorating session to get all their questions answered.
You absolutely can! In fact, it is highly suggested (though not required) to print them so you can use them throughout the course. Once you get access to the online portal, you will also have access to all of the PDF files for the course. You will be able to download them by clicking on the file. Once the file is downloaded, you will be able to print it. You will need to print the templates to use that as a cookie cutter guide.
We want you to love everything you purchase from Windy City Baker. However, if for any reason you are not satisfied, we offer a full refund within 30 days of original receipt. Following the refund, you will no longer have access to the video tutorials, private Facebook group, or PDF materials on the Teachable portal.
